“We will continue to support any action and investment that involves advancing in the field of green and sustainable transition, improving energy efficiency, digital transition and competitiveness,” said Oswaldo Betancort

Council Meeting with the Tías City Council

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, together with the vice president of the Corporation, Jacobo Medina, visited the municipality of Tías this Friday on the occasion of the round of meetings with the rest of the municipalities of the island.

In the meeting between both institutions, which was attended by the mayor of the municipality, José Juan Cruz, accompanied by the first deputy mayor, Nicolás Saavedra, and other members of the municipal government group, different topics of interest and pending issues in the municipality were raised, among which the execution of the Tourism Sustainability Plan stood out.

The plan called “Lanzarote, the energy of the Earth”, supported by the Cabildo of Lanzarote, the Government of the Canary Islands and the Secretary of State for Tourism of the Government of Spain, includes a series of actions to transform La Tiñosa into a more sustainable, green and digital area, with a budget of 5 million euros in the ordinary call and another 8 million euros in the extraordinary call this year.

“From the Cabildo we will continue to support any action and investment that involves advancing in the field of green and sustainable transition, improving energy efficiency, digital transition and competitiveness,” said Oswaldo Betancort, “but always placing special emphasis on preserving our culture and with absolute respect for the signs of identity of a historically fishing town.”

Waste, water and roads

The highest municipal representative, José Juan Cruz, told the highest officials of the Cabildo of Lanzarote about the problems faced by the City Council with the management of waste in the Zonzamas Environmental Complex. In response, the president informed him that the Corporation is already working to have all the necessary investment available in a short time to update and modernize the current supply network.

In another order of ideas, the mayor also expressed his concern about the situation of the roads that pass through the municipality, both in the cleaning of the margins and in the execution of different works, a concern that the vice president and councilor of Public Works, Jacobo Medina, resolved by assuring that “we are working on a macro-project to increase the staff destined to the cleaning and improvement of the margins, as well as to speed up the procedural procedures in the execution of the works.”

The meeting also addressed different issues of municipal interest such as the situation of public transport in Tías, as well as the need to change the bus shelters, or the Consistory's refusal to install aquaculture on the island's coastline.

For his part, the deputy mayor Nicolás Saavedra, thanked “the enthusiasm and the desire to involve us all together in the realities of our neighbors, in particular, I am very excited about the common project of attention, care and revitalization for our elders.”

“This meeting has served to put on the table what are the real problems of Tías, and from now on we will work in accordance to advance in the needs and demands of the residents of the municipality,” said the president, who concluded the meeting by updating the government of Tías on the status of the Island Plan for Territorial Planning and the Special Plan of La Geria, guaranteeing them that “they will be kept promptly informed and aware of the steps that are being taken by the Island Council in terms of urban planning.”
