The tender to manage the cheese factory is deserted and its opening is blocked again

The tender called by the Cabildo of Lanzarote for the management of the island's cheese factory has been deserted, thus forcing the Corporation to look for new formulas to start up this facility, which has been closed for years and pending opening.

According to the Cabildo, "the companies initially interested" have finally renounced to participate in this tender, "because they cannot guarantee, as required by the terms and conditions, the necessary supply of milk." This could be due to the reticence shown by the livestock sector itself, which for years has been demanding to be directly in charge of the management and, otherwise, threatened not to sell the milk to the cheese factory.

Faced with this new scenario, the Cabildo has now announced that it will directly address with the farmers the formula for the exploitation of these facilities and the "formalization of possible agreements in which the co-participation of the same within the industry itself is not ruled out."

Resignations

The opening of the cheese factory, located in the Agroindustrial Complex, has been delayed for a decade, and the current government group had committed to its imminent start-up, with the call for this tender. However, and although they had assured that there were several companies interested, finally none has been presented.

"The Majorera industry (Maxorata) that currently processes the island's milk production, also desisted at the last moment to take charge of it despite its initial interest," they emphasize from the Corporation.
