The teachers of the IES César Manrique maintain their intention to hold a strike in protest for the alleged aggression to the director of the center

Educators, parents, and students are concerned about the difficult situation the institute has been experiencing for days.

The teachers of the IES César Manrique remain committed to denouncing the difficult situation the center is going through after the director of the center allegedly suffered an attack by the mother of a student.

For this reason, after the meeting held this morning, they decided to initiate the procedures to carry out some type of strike or stoppage at the institute. Although the decision is firm, next Monday they will meet again to better specify the process to follow.

This is the decision of the educators of the center after this week they received the visit of the Deputy Minister of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Hernández, who met with the director of the IES César Manrique.

During the meeting, the head of Education showed his moral and legal support in the face of the situation, assured that it is a regrettable but at the same time exceptional event, and requested that the center return to normal so that the institute recovers its usual pace of work with the lines of calm and tranquility that should characterize the educational community.

Worried

For their part, the teachers of the center believe that they need to have this support through some written document that demonstrates it.

In addition, they are concerned about the atmosphere that the center has been experiencing for days. But the situation of uncertainty also affects parents and students. A problem that everyone wants to end as soon as possible because no one knows what may happen in the future and everyone fears that the situation will worsen over time as they see that there is no sign of a solution.

Background

On October 27, and according to the teachers' version, the parents of a student appeared at the center to demand the admission of one of their children, since he had been expelled for three days as a result of assaulting a classmate, a fault considered serious in the Internal Regulations of the Center.

It seems that the mother of the sanctioned student waited for the director of the institute's car to leave and chased him with her vehicle through several streets of the city, harassing him in an inadmissible way and even threatening him. Faced with this intimidation, the director, instead of going to his home, went to the Police Station to file the corresponding complaint.

From that moment on, a conciliatory procedure was opened to which the family in question could adhere. The process consists of going to the center, giving explanations, talking to the tutor, with the head of studies and with the director to try to solve the problem with education and peacefully.

Initiation of the file

The deadline for the conciliation process ended last Monday. As the parents did not appear at the center willing to resolve the conflict, they moved on to a second phase, which is the initiation of the file.

This means that an investigating judge is appointed, who is a colleague from the center, and who must assess whether the fault is serious or very serious. Depending on one or the other assessment, one sanction or another will be applied, but in the most serious case, the definitive expulsion of the boy from the center can be requested. Currently the process continues although it is long and will extend over time.
