The Society for the cultural promotion of the Canary Islands in Europe, chaired by Jerónimo Saavedra, will have its headquarters in Lanzarote in the Casa de los Arroyo in the capital of the Island, thanks to an agreement signed this Friday with the Cabildo de Lanzarote. The Cabildo cedes an office inside the House, which will also be the headquarters of the events programmed by the Society.

The agreement was signed by Saavedra himself and the president of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés, with the presence of the mayor of Arrecife, Cándido Reguera, and the councilor of culture of the Cabildo, Francisco Cabrera, among others. The duration of the agreement will be four years.

Next Friday a conference will be held in the Sociedad Democracia de Arrecife, organized by this Society, by the former minister of the PSOE and current vice president of CajaMadrid, Virgilio Zapatero, which bears the title 'From tolerance to respect' and will address immigration in today's society.

Another of the activities programmed in Lanzarote will be the exhibition of the Gran Canaria painter Gabriel Ortuño 'The fortress of water', which can be seen in the castle of San Gabriel from the end of February.

Among the activities that the Society will organize soon is a conference by Jerónimo Saavedra in Milan and Genoa, a city with which he intends to strengthen ties with Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and the organization of the Mid-Atlantic Cultural Encounter, which will last from July to October in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Cape Verde, Madeira and Lisbon.

Jerónimo Saavedra pointed out during the signing of the agreement that the Society was born due to the difficulty for Canarian artists to take their work to Europe and that it is necessary to find combinations between public society and civil society to promote culture abroad. He assured that "Canarian youth has a great creative capacity".
