The Security and Emergency Consortium of the Cabildo of Lanzarote hosted on Tuesday the inauguration of 11 new firefighters and a new corporal, who will reinforce the staff.

The event also coincides with the celebration of the Day of San Juan de Dios, patron saint of firefighters, a holiday that has been commemorated from 11:00 am, in the presence of the Security and Emergency Councilor of the Consortium, Marcos Bergaz, and the security councilors of the City Councils of Arrecife, San Bartolomé, Teguise, Tinajo and Yaiza, as well as the mayors of Haría and Yaiza. Also present were councilors Jorge Peñas, Domingo Cejas and Hugo Delgado.

“The effort of the firefighters translated into more than a thousand services performed in 2021 and in the trust that the Corps earns every day among the citizens of Lanzarote. This is no coincidence, but the reward for the good work, the daily effort and the professionalism they demonstrate day after day. For all this, also on the day of the firefighter and their families, their best support, our congratulations”, said Bergaz.

“We are fulfilling one of the objectives of the mandate: to increase the number of personnel, to make Lanzarote and La Graciosa a safer place. We will be with the new colleagues who join a family already with 50 firefighters”, concluded the councilor.

The program of the Day of San Juan de Dios consisted of a mass, officiated in the Church of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios de Yaiza, as well as a performance by the violinist Diego A. Fajardo Antelo, and the interventions of the councilor and the sergeant Domingo Crespo, from the Fire Station.
