The PSOE questions that Oswaldo Betancort takes eight years to claim two million from Teguise to the banks

Marcos Bergaz: “While other municipalities on the island have already recovered the money, Oswaldo's government is initiating the judicial claim of the debt eight years later.”

Councilors of the Psoe of Teguise

The PSOE of Teguise questions that the government of Oswaldo Betancort takes eight years to judicially claim more than two million euros for a "toxic" banking operation signed by the City Council of Teguise and the entity BBVA in June 2006 and modified in December 2010.

The Advisory Council already indicated in 2013 that legal actions should be taken in this case to recover the money from a Swap, a financial hedging contract. Thus, this Wednesday, December 9, the plenary session will authorize the mayor to exercise the corresponding legal actions for the annulment of the "toxic" banking operation.

The socialist group regrets the lack of haste shown by the government of Oswaldo Betancort and hopes "that this time, after eight years, its nullity can be declared, recovering more than two million euros," says Marcos Bergaz.

For the socialist councilor, "while other municipalities on the island, such as Arrecife or San Bartolomé, have already won against the banks and recovered the money, this Government is initiating the judicial claim. It seems that the haste they have to advance money to banking entities, they do not have it when it comes to recovering public resources that never had to be paid."

Situation that happens again

Last November, the socialist group already denounced that, on up to two occasions, the file to declare the nullity of different "toxic" operations signed with another banking entity, Banco Santander, expired, which forced to start it for the third time and be able to demand more than 600,000 euros.

On this occasion, the proposal to claim the return of more than two million euros for this new "toxic" operation is taken to the Plenary without having previously passed through an informative commission and detailing to the opposition the details of these detrimental contracts for the Municipality.

"We hope that economic resources can be recovered that should already be in the municipal coffers if this government group had acted with more speed and diligence," concluded Bergaz.
