The PSOE of Tinajo denounces that the municipality does not subsidize the self-consumption of photovoltaic energy

Begoña Hernández, councilor of the party, has stated that "while other municipalities are moving towards a more sustainable energy model, Tinajo is lagging behind due to the lack of political will of the mayor"

The Socialist Party of Tinajo has publicly denounced that the municipality is the only one on the entire island that does not offer any type of tax break to promote self-consumption of photovoltaic energy in residential homes. This is reflected in a report by the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote, which includes the existence of bonuses of up to 50% of the Real Estate Tax (IBI) in six of the seven municipalities on the island, with Tinajo being the only one for which there is no data on this type of incentive.

“We are talking about a simple, effective and necessary measure to encourage the installation of solar panels in homes, reduce energy bills and move towards a more self-sufficient island from an energy point of view”, said socialist councilor Begoña Hernández. “The fact that Tinajo is the only exception is no coincidence: it is the result of the inaction of a government group anchored in the past, which continues to not take the ecological transition seriously.”

The party has explained that "the absence of bonuses is not limited to the IBI. The report by the Renovables Foundation, which analyzes the situation at the state level, also shows that municipalities such as Tías, Yaiza and San Bartolomé —which occupy the third, fourth and fifth place in number of inhabitants in Lanzarote— apply bonuses of 50% and up to 80% in the ICIO, the Tax on Constructions, Installations and Works".

“While other city councils understand that these measures not only benefit the environment but also the family economy, in Tinajo we still do not have a clear roadmap in energy matters”, added Hernández. “The mayor prefers to look the other way instead of adopting measures that promote a more sustainable and fair model”, she pointed out.

The PSOE of Tinajo demands that the government group update the tax ordinances and adopt measures that encourage the use of clean energy in the municipality. “We cannot continue to be the tail end of Lanzarote in matters as fundamental as sustainability. We demand responsibility and action”, concluded Begoña Hernández.
