The award ceremony of the I Alexis Tejera Awards granted by the Socialist Group of San Bartolomé will be held this Saturday, January 21, starting at 8:30 p.m. in the Los Bermejos Winery. The Alexis Tejera Award for Social Welfare went to the Lanzarote Health Area Unit and the Alexis Tejera Award for educational work went to Benjamín Nieves Delgado.
The local secretary of the PSOE, Raúl de León, recalls that this distinction was established on the initiative of the San Bartolomé Group to recognize, remember and exalt the figure of the socialist mayor of the municipality until his death in November 2021.
"In his intense political career, Alexis defended socialist values in every aspect of his management. He always did so with coherence and passion, demonstrating a deep knowledge of this municipality, a great vocation for service and enormous humanity," says De León.
The awards will be presented in the established categories: Social Welfare in recognition of those people, entities or associations that in the island area work to improve the material living conditions of the population; Educational Work for facilitating knowledge, values, habits and beliefs. The Historical Socialist distinction recognizes the work of militants of the municipality who have defended the values of the PSOE throughout their lives.
De León points out that the evaluation of the proposals received has been carried out by a commission made up of the Local Executive of the PSOE Group of San Bartolomé and members of the family of Alexis Tejera. The awarded people and entities will receive a sculpture designed and made by the artist César Corujo Saavedra.
Representatives of the PSOE in the different local, municipal, island and regional institutions, members and supporters of the Party, residents of the municipality, family and friends will attend this event which aims to be, also, a meeting to remember the mayor, colleague and friend.
