The PSOE of Lanzarote insists that the "water emergency" is "a blatant lie"

During the assembly of the Island Water Council, "it was confirmed that it does not allow streamlining deadlines or making direct awards"

The PSOE of Lanzarote has denounced that the declaration of water emergency, presented by Oswaldo Betancort as the solution to the water crisis, has been revealed as "a useless and ineffective lie." This morning, in the assembly of the Island Water Council, "it was confirmed that it does not allow streamlining deadlines or making direct awards", as the PSOE had warned.

The PSOE also denounces that the president of the Cabildo, who had defended this initiative as essential, "did not even attend the session, having also been absent from the assembly of the Consortium." The PSOE considers "this absence and the failure of the measure as a new sign of the incapacity and empty propaganda of Betancort and his government team."

The declaration of water emergency, "defended with great fanfare by Betancort, has been discredited by confirming that it does not serve to shorten deadlines in the awarding of works nor does it allow direct awards", according to the explanation of the Consortium manager. A measure that, "far from being the promised solution, has been revealed as an act of pure propaganda intended to hide the incompetence of the president of the Cabildo and his government team."

“First, the president of the Cabildo sold us the declaration of water emergency as the magic and absolute solution that would solve all the problems derived from the water crisis in Lanzarote. And now, not only does he not show his face in the assembly where the issue was to be discussed, but we also find that this measure is completely useless for what they promised. They have made a fool of themselves,” declared the island secretary of the PSOE and Deputy in Congress, María Dolores Corujo.

From the PSOE of Lanzarote, they emphasize that this type of "occurrences" only serve to "aggravate the distrust of citizens in institutions. The declaration of water emergency was nothing more than a theater to cover up their manifest incapacity. Betancort and his government team have demonstrated that they have neither a serious plan nor the necessary commitment to face this crisis, and the worst thing is that the population of Lanzarote continues to suffer the consequences," added Corujo.

The PSOE recalls that the water crisis in Lanzarote "requires real solutions, such as the public and efficient management of water, as they have been defending for months. Meanwhile, Betancort's presidency is limited to great headlines and empty measures, leaving the island in an unsustainable situation."

"The same people who got us into this situation continue to demonstrate their inability to solve one of the most serious problems on the island. Lanzarote cannot afford more improvisations or more excuses," concluded Corujo.
