The Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote has denounced this Tuesday the "lack of transparency of the president Oswaldo Betancort", who has refused to clarify what will be the management model of the integral water cycle once the termination of the contract with Canal Gestión materializes.

During the plenary session held this Tuesday, the PSOE formulated a direct interpellation to the island president to know his intentions regarding the future of the water service in Lanzarote and La Graciosa. Betancort's response "was evasive and without concrete commitments, which generates a deep concern in the socialist ranks about the future of a basic and essential service for Lanzarote."

“Citizens have the right to know what is going to happen with a service as essential as water. But Betancort prefers to hide his plans and continue acting behind the backs of the people”, denounced the socialist spokesperson, Ariagona González.

The PSOE recalls that it was the Extraordinary General Assembly of the Water Consortium that agreed to initiate the procedure for terminating the contract with Canal Gestión, and that this critical moment must be faced with "clarity, planning and commitment to the general interest." Likewise, González recalled that "Oswaldo Betancort still has not delivered the documentation related to the company's allegations, which had until May 12 to present them."

González has been clear in her presentation: “The PSOE is committed to a public management model of the integral water cycle, which guarantees a quality, sustainable service under democratic control, free of private interests that have demonstrated their inefficiency and their lack of social sensitivity."

“Today Lanzarote has woken up with 20 towns without water, six of the seven municipalities without supply. We are not going to allow the disaster that Canal Gestión has meant for this island to happen again. Lanzarote deserves public management where service prevails, not the business of a private company."

González has assured that from the PSOE they will "continue to demand that the president of the Cabildo show his face and clarify what his intentions are in a matter that directly affects the life and well-being of all citizens."
