The Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote has denounced "the exorbitant expense of more than one million euros for the Navilan event", a project promoted by the current government of the Cabildo. Perdomo has described this expense as an "unjustifiable waste" at a time when Lanzarote is facing urgent problems such as the water crisis, the housing emergency and the saturation of basic services.
According to the councilor, of the total budget allocated to Navilan, 400,000 euros come from the Lanzarote Foreign Promotion Society (SPEL), while more than 550,000 euros have been charged to the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers (CACT). "We are faced with an absolutely disproportionate expense, diverted from items that should be used to promote sustainability, culture and attention to the real needs of citizens. It is outrageous that this money is spent on events when the population suffers constant water cuts and lacks access to decent housing," Perdomo criticized.
The PSOE of Lanzarote recalls that this type of decision highlights the priorities of the island government of the Canarian Coalition and the Popular Party, which seem more focused on organizing macro-events than on solving the problems of citizens. "The main mission of SPEL and CACT is to promote our island and preserve its heritage, not to serve as boxes to finance shows that do not provide a tangible benefit to the population or the economic fabric of Lanzarote," added Perdomo.
The socialist councilor has also questioned the lack of transparency in the planning and execution of this event, demanding that the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, clarify the criteria used to justify an expense of such magnitude. "This government has turned the Cabildo into a propaganda machine regardless of the cost to public coffers. Meanwhile, they ignore the serious structural problems facing our island."
Perdomo concluded by recalling that the real priority must be to address the problems that directly affect the people of Lanzarote. "Public resources cannot be used for unnecessary events while dozens of towns suffer water cuts, families cannot find housing and our basic services are at their limit. It is time for this government to reconsider and start working for the real needs of the island."
