The PSOE denounces the "alarming" reduction of emergency funds to fight gender violence for Lanzarote

"The photos on 25N are useless if we allow Lanzarote to take steps backwards and turn a blind eye to such a bloody reality," said Councilor Isabel Martín

The councilor of the Socialist Group and former head of the Social Welfare area in the Cabildo of Lanzarote Isabel Martín has denounced in the plenary session held on Monday morning the "alarming decrease" that Lanzarote suffers from emergency funds "destined to the fight against gender violence".

The socialist councilor does so referring to the allocation for the 'Call for Aid to Women Victims of Gender Violence' from funds of the 'Canary Institute of Equality', which in this year has been "reduced to 68,341 euros".

"Since 2019, economic aid for social emergencies to women victims of gender violence has been increasing. At that time, the contribution was "about 31,000 euros".

In 2020 it was possible to "increase the amount to 68,000 euros". For the year 2021 it was possible to grant the approximate amount of "about 102,000 euros" and in the year 2022 aid was granted for an amount "slightly higher than 200,000 euros", says Martín.

Martín recalls that the Socialist Group recently denounced that Lanzarote is the "third Canary Island with the most calls for gender violence, 125 in the last month, a figure that unfortunately grows with respect to the previous data, with physical violence being the most frequent reason for alert to the 'Service for Attention to Women Victims of Violence'". In addition, it is added to the cut the "drastic structural cut of 450,000 euros practiced by Coalición Canaria and Partido Popular" in these funds for the entire Autonomous Community, funds fundamental for "the support and protection of women in situations of maximum vulnerability".

"We fear that we will return to the times when the Cabildo of Lanzarote had no relevance in the fight against gender violence in the Canary Community. The photos on 25N are useless if we allow Lanzarote to take steps backwards and turn a blind eye to such a bloody reality", she concludes.
