The PSOE denounces that Oswaldo Betancort is "an accomplice" of Clavijo, allowing regional budgets that are "outrageous for the island"

During the plenary session held this Monday, the spokesperson for the Socialist Group, Ariagona González, stressed that the discrimination suffered by Lanzarote is "disappointing, incomprehensible and outrageous."

The Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote has accused Oswaldo Betancort of "kneeling Lanzarote" by allowing "outrageous regional budgets for the island." In this sense, they have defended a motion in the plenary session this Monday morning for the Cabildo to defend the "island interests" in the 'General Budget' of the Autonomous Community, which has been voted against by the Canarian Coalition and the Popular Party.

During her speech, the councilor and spokesperson for the Socialist Group, Ariagona González, described the discrimination suffered by Lanzarote in budgets in which the Government of the Canary Islands "boasts of having increased the budget" of the Autonomous Community by "1,100 million euros" and in which Lanzarote sees "its items decrease by 14 million" in a "bleeding manner" as "disappointing, incomprehensible and outrageous."

"They forget Lanzarote and the social majority of the Canary Islands"

"It is not only that it is the only island in the entire archipelago in which investments decrease, but also that they are budgets that forget the social majority of the Canary Islands, since they violate the education law, the culture law, the social services law, and the multi-year commitment to financing universities. A larger budget than the previous one but which is annoying both social and productive sectors. Honestly, it's hard to do worse,” lamented the socialist spokesperson.

González also stressed during her speech that “the Clavijo Government has made Lanzarote end up paying a large part of what the Autonomous Community has stopped collecting due to the inheritance tax, 18 million euros, and that only benefits the 6,600 wealthiest people on the islands, that is, only 0.3% of the population.”

"It only benefits the 6,600 wealthiest people on the islands, that is, only 0.3% of the population”

González concluded her speech by inviting Oswaldo Betancort to "do everything possible to end this discrimination to which the Canarian Coalition subjects Lanzarote." “Tenerife is 45 minutes away, you don't have to go to Brussels, go as many times as necessary and solve this abandonment and contempt for the people of Lanzarote and Graciosa. As long as it is not like that, we will continue to maintain that Fernando Clavijo has humiliated Lanzarote with his complicit silence.”
