The spokesperson for the Socialist Group in the Cabildo and insular vice-secretary of the PSOE, Ariagona González, at the press conference held to report on the Socialist Party's position on the approval by the Government of the Canary Islands of the Hydrological Plan of Lanzarote, has expressed her concern about the statements made by the president of the Cabildo during the plenary session of the Parliament of the Canary Islands that agreed to transfer the powers of the Insular Water Council.
"Oswaldo Betancort, in his speech in the Parliament of the Canary Islands, on September 13, acknowledged that the approval of the Plan was probably stopped by the ruling that annulled the 2001 Hydrological Plan, and said verbatim that it was because "it breaks the integral water cycle and is against someone's political model"", explained the councilor.
"It is intolerable that Oswaldo says that public desalination corresponds to "someone's political model", when it is the result of the decision of the Cabildo and the seven municipalities of Lanzarote, which agreed to it when constituting the Consortium, the monopoly of the integral water cycle responds to the model that Lanzarote decided in 91, it is a decision of the entire island society, included in our PIOL", González reproached.
The socialist spokesperson recalled that "the water monopoly has allowed Lanzarote families to have drinking water at reasonable prices, as well as the primary sector, thanks to the price applied to large consumers."
"The Socialist Party is proud to continue defending that model, now it is Oswaldo Betancort who has to explain to us if he also considers it his or if he has succumbed to the interests of the hotel association," Ariagona González concluded.
