The PSOE of Arrecife has denounced the "hypocritical silence" of the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, after the Government of the Canary Islands has installed tents in the Puerto Naos dock for the assistance of unaccompanied migrant minors who arrive to the island by boat.
The councilor of the Socialist Group, Cristina Duque, recalled that "in the most difficult moments of the migratory crisis in Lanzarote, the current mayor of Arrecife positioned himself against these facilities demanding that the reception of immigrants be carried out in another location other than Arrecife."
"Swallowing impositions"
“While in 2022 he demanded the maximum dignity in the reception of minors and alarmed the population with the xenophobic discourse that characterizes the Popular Party, now he has had no choice but to swallow the impositions of his leader at the regional level. Let us remember that Yonathan de León posed in photos in front of reception resources installed in Puerto Naos demanding their elimination”, he pointed out.
“With so many contradictions, the citizens of Lanzarote do not know the position of the Popular Party to respond to the migratory crisis, but the role of the mayor of Arrecife has exceeded embarrassment”, added Duque, who has "regretted" that the Government of the Canary Islands has decided to "eliminate a resource such as the La Santa shelter to later improvise a reception resource with worse conditions."
“They have preferred to eliminate the beds of the La Santa shelter to welcome migrant minors in tents”, adds Duque, who also recalls that Lanzarote "lived one of the most regrettable episodes of the management of the migrant crisis last week with the discovery of the “terrifying state” of the center for migrant minors of the Casa del Mar de Arrecife. “This is the seal of the management that CC and PP are carrying out: helplessness, contradictions and political use of human tragedies”, concluded Duque.
