The socialists of Arrecife have shown their "incredulity" at what they consider "threats" from the mayor, Cándido Reguera, to close the Mercedes Medina, Adolfo Topham, Capellanía del Yágabo and Titerroy schools, due to adaptation problems to the new electrical regulations.

To date, according to them, the capital's City Council "has been responsible for the works through their inclusion in the projects of the E Plan of municipal investment". "Reguera himself incorporated a budget item of 600,000 euros in his budget for 2010 to finalize the adaptation of the pending schools", they add.

"However, at the end of the year and with the remodeling not executed, the mayor comes to the forefront to demand that the Government of the Canary Islands be in charge of carrying out the work. He never demanded it until now, coincidentally after the Government pact between CC and PP broke down", denounces the socialist candidate for mayor of Arrecife, José Montelongo.

According to the PSOE councilor of Arrecife, "the about-face given by Reguera in this matter responds to the approval of an inflated budget, supposedly investor and supported by bank loans that he has not been able to obtain and that therefore, he does not worry about materializing".

In his opinion, "the current mayor lives off the income of the previous work done by the socialists". "Thanks to our silent work, which Reguera branded as paralysis, he has been able to feign management in 2010. And he has dedicated himself to investing in surveys, concerts, reports and conferences, ideal acts to take the photo but different and distant from the needs of citizens".

Montelongo also recalls that among the amendments to the regional Budget, the socialist parliamentarians have included 200,000 euros, in order to have a starting amount for the drafting of the electrification projects. "Now we will see if Reguera's Popular Party supports us or turns a deaf ear to the situation of about two thousand families in Arrecife", he points out.
