The socialists of Arrecife have shown their rejection of the decision of the Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, Rita Martín, to divert the item planned for the Congress Palace to other destinations. In their opinion, "it is inadmissible" that the head of Tourism keeps the island "without a vital infrastructure for the sector and a fundamental economic engine for its capital".

Despite the external promotion of Congresses, Conventions and Incentives tourism carried out by the regional Executive, Arrecife "has been waiting for years to have a facility of this nature", which allows hosting both commercial meetings and large-scale cultural activities, as the PSOE has recalled through a statement.

"The complicit silence of the mayor Cándido Reguera, Rita Martín's fellow party member in the Popular Party, who wants a tourist city and an icon in the bay but says nothing about this new delay in the construction of the Congress Palace, is striking," says the local secretary of the socialists of Arrecife, José Montelongo.

"It must also be remembered that it is Rita Martín's ministry that has been delaying for months the investment committed to waterproofing the roof of the Los Jameos del Agua auditorium. And not only has the organization of congresses and conventions been prevented, but the recent rains have generated leaks and significant damage inside," says the socialist councilor.
