The PSOE of Arrecife has pointed out that the capital's paving plan has turned out to be "a millionaire disaster for the city's residents, who have seen how after months of works and inconveniences the result is worse than what they had before."
In a press release, the socialists have noted that the mayor Yonathan de León "ordered to put asphalt on the existing road, putting the firm at the height of the sidewalk curbs." This has meant that many homes have been left without a curb to protect themselves from the rains.
The PSOE has denounced that after this paving, "the water runs at the height of the doors of the houses in the neighborhoods of Arrecife, which causes the houses to flood." At the same time, it has insisted that, "as if this were not enough, manholes and sewers were covered, achieving that the amount of water that remained on the surface was much greater than usual."
The socialists have accused the consistory of causing "damage to homes that never had problems, until the mayor had the happy idea of taking out a low cost paving with the aim of taking the photos he likes so much."
“The neighbors had already been warning in a multitude of streets that what was being done was a real botch and that it was going to complicate their lives the fact that they were paving on top of the previous layer, that manholes and sewer lids were being covered", highlighted the PSOE councilor in Arrecife, Cristina Duque, who continues "but of course, that spoiled the photo for the mayor”.
In this line, the socialist party in the capital has warned that it is collecting "the necessary information" in order to find the reasons why the floods have been, in their opinion, "more serious now than in recent years."
In this line, the party has stressed that "the mayor has spent millions of euros on infrastructures that not only do not improve what was there, but worsen the situation."
The socialists have also pointed out that “when one only wants to do cheap politics, one achieves these terrible results, waste and ruin for the citizens”. In addition, from the socialist formation "we are worried about the future. It is true that it rained quite a bit, but simply 30 minutes, the day we have a big rain we can live a real collective tragedy”, says Duque.
The socialist councilor added that "now it is time to spend a lot of millions of euros to fix a historical botch. First of all, the current asphalt and the previous one must be milled. Then you have to fix the infrastructures that have been broken with the mayor's paving and finally put a new firm".
Also from the PSOE, they have highlighted that the infrastructure works of Arrecife "have not had supervision by Jacobo Medina, who has been in the photo without noticing what was being done wrong." This has exemplified the problems with the floods in Portugal street or the "nonsense" of the exit of Arrecife in Manolo Millares street.
"It is a millionaire work that the Popular Party has done and that was supposed to solve the problem, and that has returned to the worst times. With a sea of sewage and rain that blocked the exit of the city".
Specifically, for the socialists "the streets where the situation has worsened after the paving" of Yonathan de León are:
- Portugal Street, Manolo Millares Street, Canalejas Street, La Porra Street and El Claudiano Street.
- In the neighborhood of Altavista: Calderón de la Barca Street, Andalusia Street and El Salvador Street.
- Titerroy: El Antonio Street, Carlos III Street and La Fermina Street.
