The PSOE candidates ask for the vote "for Lanzarote and for the Canary Islands" at the closing campaign party-rally held in Valterra square this Friday, May 26, with the attendance of public officials, members and supporters of the party.
The event was led by Loli Corujo, candidate for president of the Cabildo and head of the list for the Parliament of the Canary Islands for the island of Lanzarote and the candidates for mayors of the island's town halls: Alfredo Mendoza (Arrecife), Alfredo Villalba (Haría), Isidro Pérez (San Bartolomé), Marcos Bergaz (Teguise), Pepe Juan Cruz (Tías), Begoña Hernández (Tinajo), Carmen Guadalupe (Yaiza).
Crash plan in Arrecife
The candidate for mayor of Arrecife, Alfredo Mendoza, stated: “If the residents give us their trust, the period 2023-2027 will be the mandate of Arrecife, so the PSOE will strive to obtain resources from the State, the Autonomous Community and the Cabildo to launch a crash plan to improve the quality of life in our city in housing, public transport, sidewalks, pedestrian and bicycle mobility, parks and gardens, trees, etc.”.
“We can assume this responsibility because we are a close party that aspires to solve people's problems, but for that coordination and the best possible harmony between the City Council, the Cabildo, the Government of the Canary Islands and the Government of Spain is essential to make the investments that Arrecife needs a reality,” Alfredo Mendoza pointed out.
According to Alfredo Mendoza: “In the PSOE we are committed to sustainable, healthy, social municipalities, without gender gaps, supportive and safe. So, if the citizens give us their trust on Sunday, we will make the right of access to housing the center of our attention. We will mobilize empty homes, improve rental aid, look for land to facilitate the promotion of public housing and prioritize the rehabilitation of the housing stock in Arrecife and in all municipalities.”
Ángel Víctor Torres president of the Canary Islands
“We will only be able to give Arrecife a great boost towards modernity with Pedro Sánchez in the presidency of the Government of Spain, with Ángel Víctor Torres as president of the Canary Islands, with Loli Corujo as president of the Cabildo and with socialist mayors in Arrecife and on the island. Believe me, only the PSOE is in a position to guarantee something so ambitious and so necessary,” he concluded.
“Stability and good governance” in Haría is the commitment acquired by Alfredo Villalba; “Continuing with the fixed course focused on the well-being of people in San Bartolomé”, is the commitment of Isidro Pérez; Marcos Bergaz committed his “word as mayor” to modernize the municipality, because “Teguise deserves it and we will do it well”; Pepe Juan Cruz has reiterated “more dedication and more constant and diligent work at the service of the majority in Tías”; “Illusion for change in Tinajo” is what Begoña Hernández proposes; and “being part of a new majority capable of ending instability in Yaiza” is Carmen Guadalupe's commitment.
“Lanzarote is doing very well”
Loli Corujo closed the event, who asked for the trust and the vote of the electorate. “Trust because, with the PSOE, Lanzarote has returned to normal and the confrontations between institutions and the persecution of civil servants are over, people are no longer singled out for voting for one party or another and social peace has returned to the Tourist Centers.”
She also asked for the vote because, although in these years we have experienced exceptional moments, “I want to consolidate from the Cabildo the political stability achieved, the cooperation with all the town councils and the dialogue with civil society.”
Loli Corujo related that, economically, “Lanzarote is doing very well” and has broken the record in job creation, in members affiliated to Social Security and in permanent contracts. There are now 2,000 fewer unemployed people than when we took possession of the Cabildo, in June 2019, and there are also about 12,000 more people affiliated to Social Security.
“Recover and reinforce public management”
“Therefore, I feel supported to ask again for the vote of the men and women of this land, because I intend to recover and reinforce the public management of essential services such as water and land transport, I intend to put social rights at the center of our attention, starting with housing,” stressed Loli Croujo.
“There is work ahead, I am aware, but, in this mandate and with the PSOE, the Cabildo presents the best management in the worst moment of our history and now we want to finish the work that was interrupted by the health crisis; we want to finish it to make Lanzarote a more sustainable island in social, economic and environmental terms,” the socialist candidate pointed out.
Loli Corujo's last words were: “To culminate this work, to continue consolidating the change, we need the trust of the citizens on May 28, so don't be distracted by the enemies of Lanzarote, their spokespersons and their loudspeakers: I need your trust and your vote so that Lanzarote and the Canary Islands continue to be in good hands.”
