The La Tegala socio-cultural center hosted this Friday a summit between the Insular Executive of the PSOE, headed by its general secretary, Mª Dolores Corujo Berriel, and the Haría Group, which was attended by a large group of members.
Under the assembly format, the political situation in the Canary Islands was analyzed by the regional deputy and spokesperson for the Socialist Group in the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Manuel Fajardo Palarea, as well as the island's political scenario by Mª Dolores Corujo herself.
A concern shared in the assembly was the gradual loss of population in the municipality, which has gone from 5,249 residents in 2009 to only 4,782 in 2013. In this sense, there was agreement to develop the tourist potential of Haría and take advantage of the valuable natural and cultural heritage that the municipality holds, such as rural tourism, hiking, nature sports, gastronomic tourism or star tourism, in order to generate economic activities and employment and get the municipality out of pessimism and apathy.
The PSOE spokesperson in the Cabildo, Joaquín Caraballo, also spoke, explaining the investments planned by the first Insular Corporation in the municipality for 2014 and defended the party's position in relation to the Tourist Centers and the payment of the canon to the municipality by the Insular Cabildo; the current local secretary of the party and councilor in the City Council, Hugo Delgado, focused on municipal politics.
Also, Alfredo Villalba Barreto, one of the new additions to the PSOE, took the floor. Alfredo Villalba has a degree in Business Sciences, a master's degree in Food Marketing and owns a farm. The former president of Felapyme is a great connoisseur of the primary sector and the problems of small and medium-sized companies.
The mayor of Pájara, the socialist Rafael Perdomo, who is a native of Haría, also attended the meeting.
