Presentation of the 2021 Tourism Sustainability Plan to the island's city councils and businesses

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, began last Wednesday in La Santa a round of meetings that she will hold with the tourism entrepreneurs of the seven municipalities of the island in order to inform them of the most relevant details of the 2021 Tourism Sustainability Plan ´Lanzarote, the energy of the earth´. During the day this Thursday, the meetings were held in the municipalities of Tías and San Bartolomé.

In her presentations, Corujo has explained the strengths of a document that “will allow us to make use of the accumulated experience around sustainability based on the teachings of César Manrique to transform the destination's offer through innovative proposals linked to the ecological transition, digital transformation and competitiveness”. The Tourism Sustainability Plan offers, at the same time, coverage and support to entrepreneurs through training, advice and the promotion of entrepreneurship.

In the subsequent debates, the president has clarified the doubts that have been presented and received the suggestions of a business community that has been “committed and excited about the project”.

María Dolores Corujo wanted to thank the mayors of the three municipalities, Jesús Machín, José Juan Cruz and Isidro Pérez, for their presence at the meetings, “since the cooperation of public agents and political leadership are essential to give meaning to a Plan that has all the necessary elements to improve the positioning of the destination”.

´Lanzarote, the energy of the earth´ has a budget of 4.95 million euros that will be co-financed 50% by the central government and the Cabildo of Lanzarote.

It contemplates a series of proposals for improving and qualifying the tourist offer that will be executed within a period of three years, between the years 2022 to 2025.

The president recalled in her speeches that ´Lanzarote, the energy of the earth´ “was chosen by the Secretary of State for Tourism from among the 42 presented by the archipelago to the Program of Tourism Sustainability Plans in Destination”.
