The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, celebrates that Lanzarote, and in particular the island's primary sector, has benefited from the largest increase ever recorded in aid from the Community Program to Support Agricultural Production in the Canary Islands (POSEI) to the vineyards of the archipelago. “It is a historic achievement, a success for our men and women in the countryside, who will see their efforts recognized with an increase in the aid they receive, which rises to 20% per hectare of cultivation, and for the island as a whole, which will have an instrument that guarantees the protection and sustainability of a unique landscape in the world such as La Geria and a wine industry that is fundamental to our economic diversification.”
María Dolores Corujo explains that the amount of aid contemplated in the POSEI has increased for productions that do not have agricultural insurance, which goes from 1,600 to 2,000 euros per hectare, while in those that have insurance the amount rises from 1,800 to 2,200 euros. “These increases will mean a significant injection of liquidity to accelerate the recovery of a sector especially hit by the pandemic,” says Corujo.
In addition, as explained by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands, a supplement of 10% of the amounts that may correspond to the beneficiaries who have received aid for the installation of young farmers from the Rural Development Program will be paid (measure 112 of the RDP 2007-2013 or sub-measure 6.1 of the RDP 2014-2020) this campaign or any of the previous four.
The president of the First Institution wants to reiterate her gratitude to the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands, Alicia Vanoostende, because her “extraordinary work has allowed the Lanzarote vine to have the economic representation it deserves.”
