The PP of Lanzarote claims on 8M the labor equality and the fight against the wage gap

The Popular Party of Lanzarote has mobilized today to celebrate International Women's Day and has done so by going out to the streets, not only to celebrate the achievements made so far, but to emphasize the effort that must continue to be made in favor of real equality between men and women, especially in the workplace.

The president of the Popular Party of Lanzarote, Astrid Pérez, has highlighted the importance of continuing to work from all areas to end the inequality that persists between men and women because, unfortunately, "there is still a long way to go in issues that I think are essential, such as the wage gap, which in Spain is above 19 percent, and the need for labor and salary equalization between men and women."

In this sense, the leader of the Lanzarote Populars highlights "the responsibility and obligation of the Government to legislate to guarantee the equality of all Spaniards", the importance of labor inspections when detecting any discrimination as well as the business commitment that must exist for equality, since "the social responsibility of companies is key to promoting female leadership and labor equality in areas that have traditionally been occupied by men."

"It is necessary that from all public powers, and also from the private sector, a socially responsible behavior is promoted that allows to shorten the gap of inequalities and also achieve the full conciliation of the personal, family and work life of women," defends Astrid Pérez, who considers that precisely these difficulties are what, to a large extent, negatively condition women's access to the labor market.

In Lanzarote, unemployment continues to affect women more than men. At the end of 2024, 56.5% of the people in unemployment were women, figures very similar to those registered in these first two months of the year. In fact, this past month of February 4,235 women were unemployed, compared to 3,143 men, which is a difference of 1,092 more.

For the president of the PP of Lanzarote it is essential to maintain the claims before this March 8. "We cannot give up, and despite the difficulties, we have to continue working for the representation and empowerment of women, for conciliation and co-responsibility, as well as inclusion and female leadership," she stressed.
