The PP denounces the state of the Casa de los Arroyo

The councilors of the Popular Group in the Cabildo denounced the "deplorable abandonment" of the Casa de Los Arroyo, in Arrecife. A building that dates from the 17th century, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1990, and which is the headquarters of several departments of the Cabildo itself.

The popular representatives took advantage of the plenary debate of their proposal to "stop the initiation of BIC files" to highlight the "little concern that the PSOE Government really has for the rehabilitation of the island's heritage values and, especially, for those found in the city of Arrecife.

“In matters of heritage, the PSOE applies its policy of facade and easy discourse, and what is worse, demanding from individuals and local corporations what they themselves are incapable of doing,” says Jacobo Medina.

“It is surprising to hear Dolores Corujo giving lessons to the plenary when anyone who walks through Arrecife can see how the rear walls of the building are falling to pieces and the Cabildo, which owns the building, has done nothing in these almost three years to rehabilitate this space,” criticizes Medina.

"When the Cabildo is not capable of setting an example with its own heritage, we have to talk about negligence because it is evident that the public institution does not have the economic limitation that individuals do when facing this type of recovery projects,” Medina pointed out.

"The situation of the Casa de Los Arroyo is a clear example that protecting is not always synonymous with keeping our values and signs of identity in good condition, since the requirements, in the case of BICs, are so many, they make any rehabilitation project unfeasible."
