The Popular Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa has responded to the intention of the government presided over by Dolores Corujo to "install the half-meter pipe through one of the busiest areas of Tahiche where schools, shops and homes are located." An action that is part of the project to install the transport pipe to Arrieta, better known as the "north line" and that will significantly increase the flow of water that is currently supplied.
The popular representatives recall that "it was Corujo herself who promised the residents that the project promoted by the Insular Water Consortium would materialize outside the town and not where it is."
"The president of the Cabildo had promised to pass the pipe through the outskirts of the town but finally it is not so," denounces the councilor Jacobo Medina, since there is a section of the route that runs through a considerable part of the town center. A circumstance that, they consider, entails "a risk and a danger" important given the caliber and the high pressure that water carries through this type of canalizations.
In this sense, they recall the incident that occurred some years ago when a pipe burst next to the Tahiche road and the pressure of the water with the stones caused damage to a dozen vehicles. "Now we are talking about a school area, where there are also homes and shops, a very busy area and, apart from possible material damage, the rupture of a pipe of these characteristics would pose a serious risk to the population," Medina points out.
The Popular Party proposes that "the project be declared of insular interest in order to be able to circumvent and make the canalization of the line through the back of Tahiche".
