The PP assures residents of Valterra and Titerroy that the rehabilitation of their homes has not started due to the "negligence" of the Canary Islands Government

The Popular Party has conveyed this Wednesday to the residents of Valterra and Titerroy that the "sole responsible" for the "paralysis" of the projects to rehabilitate the homes in these neighborhoods is the "Government of the Canary Islands". "Their negligence, together with the disinterest of the City Council, has caused none of the plans to be launched," the popular representatives have stated.

The island president of the PP, Ástrid Pérez, the deputy spokesperson of the group in Parliament, Cristina Tavío, the deputy Fernando Figuereo, the senator Óscar Luzardo, and the former Housing councilor, Joel Delgado, as well as the regional coordinator of Infrastructures, Ana Zurita, and the island secretary of the PP, Saray Rodríguez, attended this meeting with the residents. In this meeting with the residents, the PP recalled that the housing rehabilitation projects were "promoted in the previous term, under the PP government in the Arrecife City Council".

The island president of the PP has described this situation experienced by the residents as "very serious". "Not only because the 166 affected families cannot have decent and adequate housing, but also because of the risk and danger involved in the state in which many of them are due to serious problems in their structure," she recalled.

Ástrid Pérez has assured that the State transferred to the Government of the Canary Islands "just over two million euros" to undertake this plan for rehabilitation and replacement of homes in Arrecife, but the Canarian Executive "has not made any contribution". "What is worse, it is unable to explain how that money from Madrid has been spent," denounced Pérez, who regretted that this is "the general trend and the daily bread of the Government of the Canary Islands in terms of housing".

Valterra and Titerroy "are not isolated cases"

The deputy spokesperson of the popular group in Parliament, Cristina Tavía, has also assured that the cases of Valterra and Titerroy "are not isolated", but are added to the "other seven of similar circumstances that exist in the Archipelago". "As of today, we are talking about the Government of the Canary Islands having pending justification for the use of 76.2 million euros of state funds that should have been invested in renovating 21,300 homes and executing 44 works, some of which have not even started, as is the case in Arrecife," she criticized.

The PP believes that the only way to get out of this situation is by "joining efforts" and also demanding that the Government of the Canary Islands "prioritize" the Valterra and Titerroy projects in order to get them included in the new 2013-2016 plans. "After the State has guaranteed that aid for housing rehabilitation and rental will be maintained, it is the Executive of Paulino Rivero who has the last word and who will decide which projects he wants to include in the new programming," assured the president of the Lanzarote popular representatives. "For our part, we will continue to insist and fight for the homes in these two neighborhoods to move forward," Pérez defended.

According to the PP, the residents who have attended this meeting have expressed their "discomfort" with the current government group of Arrecife, which they accuse of "not wanting to meet with the group of affected families".

The PP denies Inés Rojas

In addition, the PP has denied that the Ministry of Development "has announced the suppression of the rehabilitation areas and rental aid", as "recently stated by the head of Housing of the Government of the Canary Islands, Inés Rojas". The PP has assured that in that bilateral commission between the central and Canarian governments, the second additional provision of Law 4/2013 was explained, "where it is established that these lines of aid are maintained until the new ones of the new State Plan 2013-2016 are effective".

"Once the new lines of aid of the State Plan 2013-2016 are effective, all the actions that the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands considers should continue their financing may redirect them through the urban regeneration and renovation program or the rental aid program of the new State Plan 2013-2016", the PP has stated.

Therefore, the PP has insisted that "mechanisms" are foreseen that enable the "transfer of subsidy recipients to the rehabilitation or rental of state plans prior to the new state plan 2013-2016".
