PIL seals an electoral alliance with Gladys Acuña's party and the Socialist Group of Montelongo

The PIL has sealed this Thursday an alliance with the Socialist Grouping for Lanzarote (ASL) and with the party of Gladys Acuña, Unidos por Yaiza, who thus returns to join the insular formation, to go together to the next elections under the name of 'Lanzarote Avanza'. According to what they announced in a statement, their intention is to present themselves to the Cabildo and the seven town councils of the Island, "without ruling out the Parliament of the Canary Islands".

It should be remembered that both Acuña herself and the secretary of CC in Lanzarote, Migdalia Machín, have confirmed in recent weeks that they were negotiating for the former mayor of Yaiza, who had to leave office after her conviction in the Stratvs case, to join the list of the Canarian Coalition to Parliament as number two, behind Oswaldo Betancort, although both pointed out that the agreement was not yet closed.

As for the Socialist Grouping for Lanzarote, it was recently founded by the former mayor of Arrecife José Montelongo -after his departure from the Socialist Party after the closure of the investigation of the Montecarlo case and the formulation of charges against him- and by other splitters from the PSOE, as well as by the former PP councilor in the capital Nayra Callero.

In their statement, the three formations point out that they intend to create "a space for the union of forces capable of adding many Lanzarote residents from proposals and perspectives that arise from the acceptance of plurality and the defense of mutual respect." In addition, they affirm that they want to be "a reference in the Island Government as well as in the municipal institutions to promote the active and real participation of all the residents of the Island of Lanzarote in the representative bodies".

UPY, PIL and ASL also point out that they have reached "a programmatic agreement of minimums" that they summarize in "the defense of rights and freedoms, solidarity and social justice, growth of well-being, equality and educational and cultural development, improvement of the environment, projection of the presence of Lanzarote in the state and Canary Islands area and development of effective and transparent management at the service of people".

The agreement was signed by Gladys Acuña, president of UPY, Ramón Bermúdez, president of PIL and Pablo Eugenio and Nayra Callero, president and general secretary of ASL, respectively. In addition, in their press release they recall that UPY and PIL have maintained a government pact this legislature in the Yaiza City Council, after Acuña left the insular formation.
