PIL presents 13 amendments to the regional budgets, which would involve an investment of more than 18 million

The parliamentarian of the Party of Independents of Lanzarote (PIL) in the Mixed Group, Fabián Martín, has presented 13 amendments to the Canary Islands budgets of 2012 so that investments are made in Lanzarote worth more than 18 million euros. Martín described the budgets as "insensitive" to Lanzarote.

As he explained, on December 1, the Cabildo plenary session unanimously approved a PIL motion to demand more investments in the regional budgets. However, according to Martín, that institutional pronouncement has not been sent to the parliamentarians until this Monday, when the deadline to present amendments ends. Martín said that "it seems that there is a will of the government group of the Cabildo (CC and PP) to hide the complaints" to the budgets.

Likewise, he has highlighted that the budgets increase by 4 percent but that investments in Lanzarote decrease, since 64 million euros are allocated, of which 27 are for the Arrecife ring road. This has been described by Martín as "a deception because it is known that all that money will not be invested next year in that project".

According to Martín, the PIL has chosen to present these amendments "given the lack of will of the other political forces." The amendments, which Martín himself has described as "realistic" given the economic situation, are divided into three groups: educational, health and infrastructure.

Amendments by areas

In the educational area, the PIL requests 2.2 million euros for the La Destila School, in Arrecife; 1.5 million euros for the El Quintero School in San Bartolomé; 600,000 euros for the Guatiza School and 2.5 million to start the works of the IES Haría.

The demands in health go through the co-financing of the personnel cost of the Insular Hospital with three million euros; 600,000 euros for a new health center in Argana Alta and the same amount for another in Costa Teguise.

The improvement of the stormwater network in Playa Honda is also requested, with 1.5 million; two million euros to finish the project and start the works of the Arrecife Conference Center, three million for the duplication of the Mácher road to Playa Quemada; the drafting of the project of the Playa Blanca dock; the co-financing of the personnel cost of the University School of Tourism with 500,000 euros and one million for investments in the Zonzamas complex.
