Thus, the Sociocultural Center of the aforementioned southern town, which was small due to the massive influx of affiliates and supporters who gathered there, was the stage chosen by the representatives of the PIL to offer speeches aimed at instilling encouragement to their representatives in the southern Town Hall, currently presided over by the nationalist José Francisco Reyes.

The objective of the pilistas is to surpass in the next elections the result obtained in the last local elections, where by a few votes they did not manage to unseat Coalición Canaria from the mayor's office of the Consistory.

Head of the list

What the independents are clear about is that Gladys Acuña will once again be their head of the list to occupy the mayor's office of Yaiza, and again she will be in charge of taking the reins of a party that has grown enormously in recent years in the shadow of Acuña, partly thanks to her great work and dedication.

In this sense, her party colleagues consider her a strong candidate to remove the current mayor from the presidential chair because according to the polls they have recently carried out, the results that the PIL would obtain in the municipality would be similar to those of the last elections, so a little more push would allow them to agree with some of the groups that are currently in the opposition.

The president of the PIL, Antonio Hernández, also ratified this morning on Radio Lanzarote that his party aspires to walk alone in Yaiza, hence he repeated once again that they are not going to reach any agreement with the Nationalist Party of Lanzarote (PNL).

"Let no one have any doubt that we are not going to agree with the PNL neither now nor later, because it would also be an alliance that the population would not understand after the many clashes and conflicts that both parties have historically starred in the municipality," said Hernández, who also argued the different conceptions and irreconcilable points of view that both formations have.

Young and enthusiastic group

Antonio Hernández also wanted to highlight the great formation that all the members of the Local Committee of the PIL of Yaiza treasure, who show great enthusiasm for a project that has not stopped growing in recent years.

In this sense, Hernández referred to the large number of initiatives and ideas that the pilistas have for the municipality, which, he said, he hopes they can develop from the next elections in 2007.

"In Yaiza we have a fairly young and enthusiastic group of people who also treasure enormous preparation, so we are convinced that they could do a great job at the head of the Town Hall," said Hernández, who was satisfied and excited by the great response that the meeting held on Friday had.

"I think people are starting to realize that the PIL is a serious and exciting project," concluded Hernández, while valuing the large number of new faces in the municipality that could be seen last Friday during the meeting held by the pilistas.

Brotherhood, complicity and companionship

On the other hand, Antonio Hernández also acknowledged having observed during the meeting last Friday the brotherhood, complicity and companionship that the formation had been suffering from in recent months due to a series of events, and that on the other hand, had always characterized this political formation.

The founder of the party and historical leader of the formation, Dimas Martín, also attended the meeting, who launched a positive and hopeful speech with which he wanted to infect the supporters and affiliates that the time has come for the PIL to take the helm in the municipality of Yaiza.

Improvements for the municipality

The president of the PIL was critical of the situation in which the municipality is currently, since in his opinion there is no correspondence between the tourist potential and the wealth it generates, and the state in which the town is located.

In this sense, he considers that many aspects are improvable, in which the municipality is at the tail of the Island, such as transport, health, security or conservation. "I believe that Yaiza needs stability, an alternative project capable of improving all the deficiencies we currently have, and I believe that this project is that of the PIL," added the president of the insular formation.
