The Deputy Minister of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuela Armas, assured this Wednesday that the Executive has decided to authorize the opening of the dining room of the Nieves Toledo Infant and Primary School and grant the subsidy to those families that correspond to them, according to their income level.
Armas communicated this decision in a meeting with the association of parents (AMPA) of the school and with the director of the center. She pointed out, among the arguments for the concession, the number of students in the center (about 700), as well as the level of income they present, which makes the subsidy necessary, and the long claim on this infrastructure, whose first request dates back to 1999.
The decision comes after the AMPA collected 1,200 signatures requesting the opening of the dining room, which were delivered last Friday. The recovery of the early reception service was also requested, regarding which Armas explained that the Ministry is drafting a new ordinance on this service that should probably be managed by the AMPAS of each school.
The dining room of the Nieves Toledo School was built with municipal funds and the works were completed at the end of 2009. The School Board of the school had requested its opening up to three times. The request has been made for about 220 students, half of whom would not reach an annual income per family unit greater than 15,000 euros.
