Papagayo campsite will be open from June 21 to September 17

The Lanzarote Council has announced this Wednesday that the Papagayo camping area will be open from 12 noon on Wednesday, June 21 to Sunday, September 17. This area, which has been under construction since February 2016, could not be opened for this Holy Week because, as explained by the Councilor for Youth of the Council, Patricia Pérez, "finishing touches were missing, putting up signs and many things" and all the paperwork that remained pending from the reforms.

The 284 plots and facilities of the Papagayo camping area will be managed, as in previous years, by the public company Tragsa, commissioned by the Lanzarote Council. Regarding prices, the Island Corporation has indicated that, for residents, the camping plot for a maximum of four people in a tent will cost 5 euros per day and 8 euros for a motorhome or trailer. This represents, in both cases, an increase of one euro compared to the rate applied last year. For non-residents, the price will be 7 euros and 10 euros per day, respectively. In addition, for each extra camper who stays overnight on the plot, two euros must be paid if they are residents and three euros if they are not. And as a novelty, visitors, both residents and non-residents, who do not stay overnight must pay one euro for the use of the facilities.

The Island Corporation has also explained that the application form and instructions for making reservations can be downloaded through the link goo.gl/twP54S on the Lanzarote Council website. Once the corresponding payment has been made, campers must go between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday of next week, with the receipt and the completed reservation form, to the Youth Service (floor -1 of the Council) where the plot will be assigned to them. From 12:00 noon on Wednesday the 21st, both the application and the payment and allocation of the plot can be done directly in the camping area.

San Ginés asks campers to "take care of it as if it were their own"

The president of the Corporation, Pedro San Ginés, and the councilor responsible for the Youth Service, Patricia Pérez, announced the opening of the camping area in Papagayo at a meeting with campers, which took place this Wednesday at the headquarters of the Council. In this act, San Ginés highlighted "the investment of nearly 750,000 euros executed by the Council in recent years and that has allowed users to enjoy since last summer improvements such as having an area with ten barbecues, a kiosk, a shaded area, an access ramp to the beach for wheelchairs, new bathrooms for people with reduced mobility and improvement of the existing ones, the fencing of the perimeter or the increase of plots".

He also pointed out that "said investment has allowed the installation of a state-of-the-art treatment plant that is expected to be operational after its opening and a fire-fighting system, the acquisition of two generator sets, the renovation and expansion of the electrical installation, as well as the installation of photovoltaic plants that will allow users to have electric light 24 hours a day".

In this sense, the president of the Council wished the campers "to enjoy their stay in the camping area" while asking them "earnestly to take care of it as if it were their own, because it has meant for the Institution an important investment effort aimed at improving the facilities, which deserve to be preserved by all".
