This Tuesday, May 19, Tenique Cultural has announced the complete schedule for the third edition of Pantalla Chinija, which will premiere next Saturday, May 23 at the Ermita de Tías at 12:00 PM with the film ¡Hola, Frida! Aimed at children between 3 and 9 years old, the project will tour six municipalities of Lanzarote and La Graciosa until December.
Thus begins a cycle of sensitive, beautiful, and family-friendly cinema with the purpose of creating a shared space for the little ones. With this project, Tenique Cultural seeks to move entertainment and cinema away from overstimulation and rapid screen consumption, something that currently affects young people all over the planet. Therefore, each film has been selected with care and attention to childhood, always with the aim of learning, reflecting, and communicating calmly.
Each session will open a space for mediation and dialogue led by Cristina Temprano or Vicki Dos Santos to express what they have felt and thought during the screening. As in other years, they will be invited to express their opinions openly, share situations that have caught their attention throughout the film, and even imagine beyond what it tells us. It is not just about watching, but about building thought from childhood.
In the words of the Minister of Youth of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Aroa Revelo, "La Pantalla Chinija represents a different way of bringing audiovisual culture to our children, betting on content that transmits values, creativity, and critical thinking from an early age." She also highlighted that the project reaches La Graciosa "because it allows the children of the eighth island to enjoy cultural proposals specifically designed for them, on equal terms and with activities adapted to their reality."
Javier Fuentes Feo, president of Tenique Cultural, also pointed out that "the project is fundamental because nowadays screens are a constant part of our lives. The best thing we can do is give our children images that help them feel, think calmly and serenely."
The first session will take place this May 23 at 12:00 PM, at the Ermita de Tías, with the screening of ¡Hola, Frida!, which tells the story of Frida Kahlo's childhood and her way of facing the world through imagination, curiosity, and creativity. This session will feature mediation by Cristina Temprano.
The Chinija Screen will be developed between May and December, with sessions in six locations on Lanzarote and La Graciosa. The program includes titles such as: Yakari, a spectacular journey, Mary Anning and the dinosaur beach, The song of the sea, Vanilla, The secret of Kells, Mama Muu comes home and Billy the cowboy hamster.
