The Tías Town Hall is finalizing the drafting of the Adaptation project for the El Fondeadero Civic Center, the old fish market of La Tiñosa, which will be conditioned to turn it into an ethnographic interpretation center.

This initiative was born as a response to the proposals of the citizens collected through a participatory questionnaire in which the population expressed its desire to have a space where the history of La Tiñosa, the sea and its people would be valued.

The building, which has two floors and is located next to the Plaza del Varadero, will have a multipurpose room and exhibition hall, as well as an office and toilets. The new space will aim to preserve and disseminate the maritime and fishing history of the municipality, as well as highlight the traditions linked to La Tiñosa.

The center will house exhibitions with objects, photographs and documents related to fishing activity and the history of the town, as well as explanatory panels and audiovisual material that will allow visitors to learn firsthand about the past and present of the community.

The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, points out that this initiative "represents a further step in the recovery of the historical memory of our town and in the revitalization of an emblematic building for the residents." He adds that the project "will contribute to enriching the cultural and tourist offer of the municipality, offering a new attraction for both residents and visitors."

Shaded areas

On the other hand, in addition to the work carried out inside the old fish market, the Town Hall already has a project drawn up to condition the outside of that area.

According to this project, the space between the fish market and the sailors' warehouse will have shaded and recreational areas in the form of a small square with a sculpture, horizontal sails and points of benches and tables for public use.
