The city of Arrecife will have a new and modern sports facility, which will allow its multipurpose use for sports and mass events. Its construction will be carried out on a municipal plot of almost 4,000 square meters, located in the downtown area adjacent to the neighborhoods of Valterra, Titerroy, El Lomo, Los Alonso and Altavista.
The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, has reported this morning that the drafting of the project has already been awarded for the construction of the new multipurpose sports hall, the Ciudad de Arrecife wrestling ground, and a large underground parking lot, which will have access through León y Castillo, and Chafariz streets. The bidding for this project has been carried out and processed by the Department of Sports, led by Councilor Eli Merino.
The new sports facilities will be built on the current parking lot next to the municipal swimming pools, and the Puerto del Arrecife soccer field. The design of this large sports facility contemplates the construction of parking spaces in the subsoil of the plot, located less than five minutes walk from the Cuatro Esquinas, on the Axis of the Open Commercial Area of the capital of Lanzarote.
The mandate of the neighborhoods with works and new sports facilities
Yonathan de León has stressed that the neighborhoods are the priority of the Municipal Government he chairs, and since July of last year, when he was proclaimed mayor of Arrecife, he launched a series of projects for the modernization of the neighborhoods. Several of these projects are underway, such as the actions in Tinasoria, Las Salinas and Argana Baja, and those completed in San Francisco Javier, La Destila and the maritime front area.
Along with the investments in the modernization of the neighborhoods, the Department of Sports, led by Eli Merino, has developed the construction of new sports facilities in the neighborhoods, such as the Titerroy or San Francisco Javier courts, or the reopening of the Municipal Sports Hall in Argana Alta. Never before has so much been invested in the modernization of the neighborhoods and their sports facilities. The construction of the wrestling ground, and a new covered pavilion, covers the deficit of covered centers for the practice of sports and federated competitions. Arrecife will join this pavilion to the new ones, already underway, that will be built in the neighborhoods of Tinasoria and San Francisco Javier,
A modern wrestling ground for Arrecife
The construction of a modern wrestling ground, adjacent to León y Castillo street (an area known for being the old road to La Villa) was among the priorities of the mayor, a lover of vernacular sports, and son and nephew of great wrestlers.
Arrecife is the only municipality in Lanzarote where, until now, did not have a municipal wrestling ground. A subject that will be covered in this mandate, as stated this Wednesday by the mayor, who, together with the Councilor for Sports, have visited this morning the area where these facilities will be built, which will be complementary to the new sports hall, which is planned in this same project, all next to the Puerto del Arrecife Municipal Sports Center that has a soccer field, municipal swimming pool, gym, weight room, sports courts and playroom.
This past summer, coinciding with the San Ginés festivities, the mayor recovered the wrestling matches and through the Department of Sports is supporting the quarry of Canarian wrestling with the creation of new teams.
The city of Arrecife has several projects and works underway that will give a change to the urban image of the capital of Lanzarote. Near this plot dedicated by the City Council for the construction of these new municipal sports facilities, the construction of a large public building with three large floors of underground parking is planned to be built in the area known as Cabo Pedro, in the vicinity of the Cuatro Esquinas, and less than five minutes walk to this planned new sports equipment that is launched, with the drafting of the technical preliminary project, in this year where Arrecife commemorates the 225th anniversary of its foundation as a municipality.
