The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, and the first deputy mayor and councilor for Tourism, Amado Vizcaíno, have visited the works that include a pedestrian promenade, green areas, a bike path and new street furniture in Reina Sofía street in Puerto del Carmen. These days the works continue on this road, one of the main gateways to the town, and which the City Council points out are progressing "at a good pace".
The works on this street, where the Concepción Rodríguez Artiles public school is located, are planned in the Modernization, Improvement and Increase of Competitiveness Plan of Puerto del Carmen approved by the Government of the Canary Islands. The works have an investment of close to one million euros and "will allow the rehabilitation of one of the busiest areas for vehicles that arrive to Puerto del Carmen through the southern area of the island", the City Council highlights.
A wider road, with green areas and a bike path
"After the works, Reina Sofía street will become a wider road, with a promenade, green areas, a bike path and street furniture, such as litter bins, new lampposts and pergolas, thus complying with the guidelines of the Modernization Plan of Puerto del Carmen", said the mayor, Pancho Hernández.
As it is a boulevard-type road, the road design will be two lanes, as well as a 2.20 meter wide bike path. The works on this street, which will also have a garden area, will allow pedestrians not to encounter obstacles in their path and will facilitate access to homes and businesses for people with reduced mobility.
For his part, the first deputy mayor and councilor for Tourism, Amado Vizcaíno, explains that "when planning the improvement works on this street, we have prioritized pedestrians over vehicles, with the widening of the road, but we will also improve road traffic, through a reorganization of parking spaces and bus and taxi stops, as well as with the creation of a roundabout for a better distribution of traffic".
