The Nature Classroom of Máguez has now been emptied of immigrants, as confirmed by the mayor of Haría, Alfredo Villalba.
"There is absolutely no one left in the Nature Classroom and they confirm to me that, if everything goes as planned, it will be difficult for them to return", said the northern mayor, who explained that the immigrants have been transferred to the warehouse that the Cabildo was enabling in Arrecife.
"Last week, with the arrival of the boat to Punta Mujeres, that warehouse was not finished yet", Villalba pointed out, stating that now that space in Arrecife is already "enabled" and that, therefore, the Nature Classroom of Máguez has already been emptied.
"It is taking them from one place and putting them in another and that does not solve absolutely anything. In the case of Máguez, it reduces tension, but the problem of immigration remains latent. A short-term solution must be found as soon as possible and a solution that precisely escapes the local authorities", the mayor of Haría stated, however.
"I think we have handled the situation quite well"
Finally, although Villalba considers it "normal" that the residents had "concern" because the immigrants were being housed in the Nature Classroom of Máguez, he also believes that what the public authorities had to do "is lower the tension". "Not do the opposite of what has been done", said Alfredo Villalba, referring to the Platform of the Municipality of Haría, which criticized the transfer of immigrants to these facilities.
"It is legitimate for the residents to feel that fear, but I think we have handled the situation quite well from the City Council and the Cabildo, and I think they have already understood perfectly that, in this specific case, the virus does not come from immigration, which is probably the most controlled. It comes precisely from the airport and, in the meantime, what has been sought is an alternative to house the immigrants", he concluded.
