The National Police receives "three or four" European arrest warrants a year, such as the one last week that ended with the arrest of a 25-year-old, one of the most wanted fugitives in Holland. "They are not very frequent, but we do usually receive these arrest warrants. We focus on them to prevent the individual from committing a series of illegal activities here," said the chief commissioner of the National Police Station in Arrecife, Federico Teodoro, on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero.
Teodoro explained how the arrest of this young man, a native of Palestine, was carried out. "They communicated it to us through the Madrid headquarters. They inform us of the most wanted people in case there is an obvious danger even for the society where they reside. There was data that pointed to him possibly being in the Puerto del Carmen area, related to prostitution. We also knew that he was a bowling enthusiast," he said.
National Police agents set up a device and managed to locate this young man in Puerto del Carmen on the night of Wednesday, June 26. "They asked for reinforcements and he was arrested without any problem," the chief commissioner reported. "We became aware of it on Tuesday and the next day he was already arrested."
The detainee, who used five different identities, was easily located by the agents, as they had his photo. "We had that advantage. When he saw that they were closing in on him, because with violent people you have to act quickly, he himself asked what was happening, but he understood immediately. He knew why we were there and gave us his real name," said Federico Teodoro.
"He left them breathless"
Teodoro indicated that the detainee was "related to the world of prostitution." "He almost strangled the women he mugged. He left them breathless until they fainted and he stole everything he could," he reported.
Luckily, the National Police has no record of him committing any of the crimes he is accused of in Holland in Lanzarote. "We know that he had been here for about two or three months, but we have no record of any crime on the island," said the commissioner, although he pointed out that the detainee did not want to testify on the island of Lanzarote, from where he was sent to the National Court in Madrid.
