This Wednesday morning, four of those arrested yesterday in Operation Faycán arrived at the Telde courts in two vehicles: the mayor, Francisco Valido; the Councilor for Public Works, Sonsoles Martín; the one for Sanitation, José Suarez; and the daughter of Councilor Toñi Torres, María Eugenia Fernández. All were released on bail of 80,000 euros.
All those arrested this Tuesday arrived at the Telde courts shortly after dawn in a camouflaged police car and exceptionally with untinted windows, so the serious gesture of the council representatives and the councilor's daughter could be seen.
Shortly after, the mayor of Telde, Francisco Valido, was the first to go to the judge's office, Javier García, and was inside for an hour. Subsequently, and after the statement of José Suárez, which lasted the same time, the mayor had to enter and leave the instructor's office several times.
Sources close to the case reported that Councilor José Suárez availed himself of his right not to testify before the police, but it is unknown whether the rest of his colleagues took advantage of this measure or not, since the lawyers of all the detainees refused to make any type of statement to the media both at the entrance and exit of the appearances.
The delay of more than five hours in front of the building was due to the absence of Sonsoles Martín's lawyer, who was attending another trial, a fact that meant that his client could not testify before the judge or issue any decision.
Javier García decided to change the order of the statements and called Torres' daughter, María Eugenia Fernández, who was accompanied by her father, and who remained before the judge for more than 30 minutes.
The cabinet of the Superior Court of Justice reported that the judge has maintained the charges against all the detainees, of bribery against public officials and of money laundering against María Eugenia Fernández.
The summary secrecy and the opacity of the lawyers did not allow the media to know the impressions of the detainees at the doors of the courts, who were waiting for the release of the four defendants because they decided to leave in a police van all together, instead of through the main door where all the journalists and the mayor's official car were waiting, which followed them to later pick up the mayor at another point in the municipality away from the objectives.
