The four patrol cars acquired by the Yaiza City Council to reinforce the security and surveillance service provided by the Local Police in the towns of the south of the Island are now operational. The mayor, Gladys Acuña, and the councilor of the Area, Francisco Guzmán Rodríguez, accompanied by councilors of the government team, made the official delivery of the vehicles to the Head of Services of the Local Police, Emilio Hernández, this Friday.
As the public call to access the cars under the renting system (long-term rental including maintenance) was deserted, the Administration, in order to resolve the urgent demand of the Municipal Corps, chose to acquire them second-hand, with a two-year guarantee, investing a total of 38,771.43 euros. The renting also intended to put into service two micros destined for the transport of beneficiaries of educational, cultural and sports activities. The City Council, however, is working on the solution to this imperative need.
The Police cars, Opel Astra gasoline-powered passenger cars, were received once the City Council verified compliance with all the technical and equipment specifications required by the Institution.
Within the forecasts of providing material resources for the Local Police, the City Council has also just purchased a new device to carry out alcohol tests, as well as a 'cold zone' for the safe handling of firearms and emptying of ammunition inside the barracks, a sound level meter for the control of decibels, anti-cut protective gloves and anti-puncture vests for use by agents. "Little by little we are solving all the needs to offer greater security and tranquility to citizens and that our police have sufficient tools in the development of their daily work," says Francisco Guzmán Rodríguez.
With the incorporation of the four cars, the Police fleet is operating with seven patrol cars, three camouflaged cars, an all-terrain vehicle, an accident van, five motorcycles and four bicycles. The latter are used in pedestrian streets and the Playa Blanca promenade.
Regarding the performance statistics of the Local Police, the balance for the first ten months of the year shows a total of 1,169 interventions in different areas. 376 related to incidents on public roads stand out; 219 to accidents (traffic, fires or others); 203 to violence problems; 148 to acts carried out by criminals against property, including robberies of properties, people and damage to vehicles; and 64 to incidents of consumption and public health. The municipal government appreciates the work of the Local Police and citizen collaboration, essential for the resolution of incidents.
