The 'HIV Campaign' , an initiative of the Lánzate LGTBI+ Association, which is financed by the island's Youth area, was presented this Monday morning in the Plenary Hall of the Cabildo de Lanzarote. This campaign is aimed at "prevention, early detection and citizen awareness regarding Sexually Transmitted Infections and Diseases".

On the occasion of World AIDS Day, the president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, the island councilor for Youth, Paula Corujo, and the councilor for Health, Juan Manuel Sosa, presented this campaign, "framed in the week of sexual health on the Island."

The president emphasized "the importance of giving visibility to the group of people with HIV in Lanzarote, with a wonderful initiative promoted through cooperation between the Lánzate Association and the island's Cabildo."

"It is essential to raise awareness among citizens about the risks of sexually transmitted infections and diseases, about how to prevent them or detect them in time, as well as clarify the numerous stigmas surrounding HIV and the patients who suffer from it," Dolores Corujo pointed out.

"From the Cabildo de Lanzarote, we feel that the financing of this project was a priority so that the Lánzate Association can put into practice some very useful ideas to support a group that continues to suffer discrimination and, on many occasions, misinformation, in relation to a virus that is already 40 years old since its first detection on the planet," said the Councilor for Youth, Paula Corujo.

The program includes sexual health tests for HIV and Syphilis "for the whole year", especially insisting this week, with the aim of "improving the effectiveness in the detection of Sexually Transmitted Infections, social awareness and information on sexual health for young people and the entire population of the Island, and the distribution of contraceptives, among other actions."
