La Geria will once again become on June 13 and 14 the setting for one of the most emblematic events on the island's calendar with the celebration of the Lanzarote Wine Run and Wine Festival 2026, an event that fuses sport, landscape, wine tradition, gastronomy, and environmental awareness in one of the most unique agricultural environments in the world.
The Cabildo de Lanzarote presented this Monday, at Finca Testeina, the fourteenth edition of an event consolidated as a benchmark both inside and outside the Canary Islands, and which in this legislature has regained its prominence as a tool for the promotion and dissemination of the territory and the primary sector of Lanzarote.
The event was attended by the president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort; the Minister of Landscape and Food Sovereignty, Samuel Martín; the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda; the director of the Canary Institute of Food Quality (ICCA), Luis Arráez; and the president of the Regulatory Council of the DOP Vinos de Lanzarote, Jorge Rodríguez.
An event that projects the identity of Lanzarote
During the presentation, the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, highlighted the value of the Wine Run as a reflection of the island's identity and the historical link between Lanzarote and its agricultural landscape.
“The Wine Run has become an immersive experience that allows us to discover and enjoy the landscapes of La Geria in a different and environmentally friendly way. It is an opportunity to show the world our wine culture, our agricultural model, and our way of understanding the territory based on respect, sustainability, and commitment to our roots,” said Betancort.
The island president focused on the leading role of La Geria, “an extraordinary landscape built thanks to the effort of generations of winegrowers who knew how to transform the difficulty of the volcanic territory into heritage, identity, and a way of life.”
He also recalled that this agricultural landscape has been internationally recognized by the United Nations as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS), a distinction that recognizes the uniqueness of Lanzarote's agricultural model and its adaptation to the volcanic environment.
“The Wine Run contributes to continuing to disseminate and protect that collective legacy, projecting an image of Lanzarote linked to its territory, where the landscape and the primary sector are an essential part of our economic activity and our external projection,” he added.
Sport and Environmental Commitment
The 2026 edition will once again bring together runners, hikers, and families around three main modalities: long race, short race, and trekking, in addition to other adapted modalities that make the event a fully inclusive gathering.
The Minister of Landscape and Food Sovereignty, Samuel Martín, emphasized that the event has consolidated itself as "an example of the sustainable island model that we want to continue promoting from the Cabildo," also highlighting its inclusive nature and support for the island's third sector thanks to collaboration with local associations such as Adislan, Grevislan, Integra, and Innova, and the Asociación Acción Social Creciendo.
"The Lanzarote Wine Run not only promotes healthy habits or revitalizes the local economy; it also generates awareness and contributes directly to the conservation of Lanzarote's agricultural landscape," stated Martín. In this regard, he recalled that part of the resources obtained through the event will continue to be allocated to the 'Salvar La Geria' project, an initiative that promotes conservation, cleaning, and maintenance actions in the environment.
The organization already has participants from over 30 different nationalities, thus reinforcing the international projection of an event that maintains its essence linked to the territory intact. Registrations will remain open until June 7 through the following link.
Uga, Epicenter of the Wine Festival
In parallel to the race, Uga will once again host the Wine Festival, a space designed for residents and visitors where wine, gastronomy, and Canarian culture will share the spotlight throughout the weekend.
Participants and other attendees will be able to enjoy wine tastings with the Lanzarote Designation of Origin, gastronomic offerings based on local products, musical performances, and cultural activities in an atmosphere designed to share and celebrate Lanzarote's identity.
The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, emphasized that "after the success of the Cheese and Goat Fair, we have a new event centered around the primary sector and sport with Uga as the epicenter. The City Council has made a great economic and logistical effort to reorganize the fairgrounds and make all possible space available. Once again, Yaiza delivers."
The municipal leader also recalled that "on Saturday, June 13, the kids' races will be held; starting at eleven in the morning, over four distances by age groups. We invite families to participate. All information for registration is published on yaiza.es.
For his part, the president of the Regulatory Council of DOP Vinos de Lanzarote, Jorge Rodríguez, highlighted the positive impact that the Wine Run has on the promotion of wine culture and the recognition of the work of winegrowers and winemakers.
"This event, in which 17 wineries participate, allows us to bring Lanzarote wine closer to thousands of people and continue to highlight the effort of those who keep this unique landscape alive throughout the year," said Rodríguez.
In the same vein, the director of the Canary Institute of Food Quality (ICCA), Luis Arráez, emphasized the commitment of the Government of the Canary Islands to initiatives that connect local products, sustainability, and tourism promotion. "The Wine Run perfectly represents the union between landscape, gastronomy, local product, and wine tourism, fundamental values for continuing to strengthen the quality and projection of Lanzarote wines," stated Arráez.
