The Cabildo of Lanzarote commemorated last Saturday, December 20, the 30th anniversary of the Residential Unit for Addiction Care (URAA) with an emotional and participatory event held in the Assembly Hall of the island Corporation. The event served to pay tribute to three decades of continuous work in favor of recovery, social inclusion, and the improvement of the quality of life for people with addiction problems on the island.

The Minister of Social Welfare and Inclusion, Marci Acuña, has highlighted the historical and social relevance of this island resource. "The center is a firm commitment for many years by the Cabildo de Lanzarote to have spaces on the island to address an existing problem. This 30th anniversary allows us to value and reflect on the more than 1,580 people who have passed through this center and on the professionals who have provided them with treatment. It is a day to thank all the people who have made it possible for this space to exist," he stated.

The event brought together current and former users of the Addiction Care Network, along with family members, loved ones, and professionals who have been part of this essential resource throughout its history, creating a space for connection marked by emotion and collective recognition.

The event, hosted by Germán Barrios, highlighted the work carried out by URAA, formerly known as the Zonzamas Therapeutic Community, emphasizing its key role in the processes of addiction cessation, recovery, and social reintegration in Lanzarote through person-centered care

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, has highlighted the human and social value of the URAA as an example of people-centered public policies. "To speak of the Residential Unit for Addiction Care is to speak of second chances, of support, and of dignity. For 30 years, this resource has changed lives and has shown that, with institutional and professional commitment, it is possible to build a more just and inclusive society," stated Betancort, who has expressly thanked "the effort of those who have worked and continue to work every day within the Addiction Care Network."

Tribute to the Addiction Care Network

The celebration featured a program of performances by the residents themselves, reflecting the talent and creativity that characterizes the Network. Among them, several theatrical performances stood out, including a play composed of three sketches, as well as musical and singing performances with the interpretation of Christmas carols directed by José Cruz and Norberto Cruz, with the special participation of the Coral Cribo Canta, which contributed a festive and warm atmosphere to the gathering.

One of the most significant moments of the event was the recognition of retired professionals from the Addiction Care Network. Each of them was presented with a gift as a token of gratitude for a career marked by commitment, dedication, and a vocation for public service.
