The Island Council Table against the Crisis will create three sectoral working groups

This Thursday, the second meeting between the different economic and social agents of the island (businessmen, local corporations and unions) took place to discuss how to alleviate the effects of the crisis.

This meeting was headed by Manuela Armas, president of the Cabildo, who proposed to the members of the Island Table against the Crisis the creation of three sectoral working groups, in order to tackle the consequences of the socioeconomic recession from different areas.

This proposal of the president has been accepted by all as the best formula to advance in solutions to the situation that Lanzarote is going through. Thus, they have concluded that in the first place will be discussed the palliative measures and short-term actions aimed at mitigating the effects of the crisis and the second working group will focus on those actions that guarantee the maintenance of employment and the strengthening of the tourism sector taking into account that the approaches should be aimed at improving external promotion and enhancing the destination.

Finally, the Cabildo will propose projects for the creation of employment and training in alternative sectors in order to diversify the island's economy according to its new model of sustainable development. The primary sector, socio-health care, renewable energies and R&D&I are some of the job niches proposed.

Next week the members of the Island Table against the Crisis must propose the people who will participate in each team. The Cabildo will then establish a calendar of meetings in which the projects that are formulated and the ways of financing them will be studied.
