The Arrecife City Council has announced the bidding for the contract for works, through a simplified open procedure, for the improvement of the surroundings of the Nieves Toledo school, for 407,630.65 euros.

From the capital's Consistory they detail that this work is included within the project “Safe School Route”, which has funding from the European Regional Development Fund, ERDF, within the framework of the Sustainable Urban Development Strategy, “Conurban Azul”.

According to reports from the Arrecife City Council, the deadline for submitting offers by bidding companies is December 13, for a work with an execution period “of 6 months” that aims for schoolchildren “to travel autonomously and safely, improving accessibility and pedestrian mobility.”

The object of the contract is “the conditioning of five streets that surround the CEIP Nieves Toledo, Indio, Tarragona, Gerona, Sotileza and Vicente Vilas González streets, providing them with wide pedestrian and road accesses, comfortable and connected to the entrance to the school.”

“The parents of the students and the residents of the area will appreciate that the surroundings of the Nieves Toledo school become a safe space for the schoolchildren who come to the educational center every morning,” says the Councilor for Education, Saro González.

The Safe School Route project has as its fundamental principle “to facilitate the mobility of pedestrians with greater difficulties and more unprotected, as is the case of schoolchildren.” In this sense, from the City Council they add that with the works “architectural barriers will be eliminated, the speed of vehicles will be reduced by installing speed bumps, horizontal and vertical signage will be improved, and parking spaces will also be placed for bicycles, motorcycles and PMR vehicles for people with reduced mobility”.
