The new energy-efficient public lighting on the section of the LZ-2 road between Arrecife and the airport came into operation on the night of Thursday, February 2. This is an improvement carried out by the Cabildo of Lanzarote thanks to the project to renovate and expand public lighting in the area, using almost half a million euros from the Canary Islands Development Funds (FDCAN).
The president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, was pleased "for making this improved lighting service available to citizens, historically demanded by users", and where the number of luminaires with low-consumption LED technology that illuminate both roads has been renovated and expanded. "Finally, 84 luminaires, 62 of them double, have been operating since last night, installed during works that have involved the execution of some 3.5 kilometers of new electrical conduits, as explained to us by the contracting company," Corujo detailed.
For his part, the island councilor for Public Works, Alfredo Mendoza, has detailed that this intervention, "which will mean savings in the public electricity bill," he clarifies, has also included the construction of retaining walls for those luminaires that are located on the slopes of the road. "It has been an important project that adds road safety to the thousands of vehicles that travel through the area," added Mendoza.
The lighting is controlled by a remote management system that complies with the energy efficiency requirements set by the regulations. And the reformed installation has been expanded to give continuity to the lighting that connects the exit of the city of Arrecife with the LZ-2 highway.
