The Heraldic Shield of Teguise is now official

The Official Gazette of the Canary Islands has already published the file that defines the Heraldic Shield of Teguise. This procedure, which began in the fifties of the last century but had not been completed, is finally completed, according to the Consistory

The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, has expressed his satisfaction because "we are ordering and legalizing many needs of the City Council that had been abandoned and that are essential for the proper functioning of an institution."

According to the Councilor for Heritage of the City Council of Teguise, Olivia Duque, the shield has four Islands that are the Chinijo Archipelago; it faces the sea on the sides, like the municipality; and in the upper part there is a crown, because it is a Royal Villa of Teguise since the 16th century. Now, all these particularities are officially recognized by the Heraldic Commission of the Government of the Canary Islands.

In the definition contained in the Gazette, it is explained that it is a "split shield, first in a field of light blue, a silver town surmounted (in the heraldic glossary it is said of a piece of furniture accompanied by another piece of furniture placed immediately above it) of an open royal crown of gold. Second, wavy silver and blue, loaded with four gold islands, placed three and one. The whole stamped with a closed royal crown formed by a circle of gold set with precious stones, added with eight florets of gold acanthus leaves, five seen, interpolated with pearls from whose leaves as many gold diadems emerge, added with pearls that converge in a world to which a flame cross of gold is added, by reason of the title of the Catholic King, and the crown lined with gules (red)".
