The Government of the Canary Islands has estimated the follow-up of the strike in Education by teachers in Lanzarote at only 13.3 percent. Despite this low figure, it has been the second island with the highest power of convocation, followed by El Hierro, which has had a participation of 23.33 percent of the teaching staff, according to data from the regional Executive.
Throughout the Canary Islands, 8.41 percent of non-university teaching staff have supported the strike, according to data collected by the Educational Inspection Service, with figures provided directly by the management teams of the centers of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands.
However, as in all strikes, the administration and unions provide different participation figures. In this sense, CCOO has raised participation in the Canary Islands to 22 percent in non-university teaching staff and has indicated that the follow-up of the strike is "much greater" in the university environment. The general secretary of Education of the union, José Ramón Barroso, explained to La Voz that "they still do not have data from the province of Las Palmas" and, therefore, neither from Lanzarote.
"Our figure is much higher than that of the administration. However, we agree with the Government of the Canary Islands that we would have liked to have greater follow-up in the non-university environment," Barroso admitted. "I think we have enough reasons to go on strike. This is how the parents have seen it, who have not sent their children to class, and the university students, who have supported this strike. Everyone is very upset with what is happening," he indicated.
According to data from the Government of the Canary Islands, the percentage of unemployed administration and services personnel throughout the Archipelago has been 1.23 percent. Of the total number of teachers who teach in the Islands, 8.44 percent of the civil servant staff, 9.14 percent of the temporary and substitute staff, and 4.59 percent of the religious teachers have gone on strike. On the part of the administration and services personnel, the unemployment figure has been 1.23 percent.
In Gran Canaria, 7.16 percent of the teaching staff has followed the strike, while in Fuerteventura the follow-up has been 9.13 percent, in Tenerife 8.54 percent, in La Palma 5.06 percent and in La Gomera 9.93 percent.
