The Government of the Canary Islands has announced the selective tests for the admission of the first fifty members of the General Corps of the Canary Police, basic scale, police employment (group C, subgroup C1), of the Public Administration of the Autonomous Community, according to the corresponding Order published today in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands.
In order to access these places, applicants must have, among others, the following requirements: be Spanish, be 18 years old and not have exceeded 32 years of age or 35 if they already belong to another police force; be in possession of the title of Baccalaureate or Professional Training of Intermediate Grade Cycle; have a driving license for class A, B vehicles with BTP or be in a position to obtain it before the deadline for submitting applications and have a minimum height of 1.70 meters for men and 1.60 for women.
The deadline for submitting applications, which begins today, will end on January 27, 2009. The corresponding documentation may be submitted at the Offices of the General Directorate of Public Function of the Government of the Canary Islands; at the Information and Citizen Service Offices located in the Administrative Buildings for Multiple Uses of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in the Island Councils and in any other entity with registration, according to a statement made public today by the Ministry of the Presidency, Justice and Security of the Government of the Canary Islands.
The documentation submitted must include the application form, which can be downloaded free of charge from the website http://www.gobiernodecanarias.org/cpj/dgfp/procesos_selectivos/convocatorias.jsp or collected at the aforementioned Government of the Canary Islands offices. Together with it, the receipt proving payment of the examination fees and a photocopy of the National Identity Document must be attached, the note continues.
SELECTION PROCESS
Once the list of those admitted to carry out the corresponding selection process has been published, the applicants must pass an Opposition phase, a training course at the Canary Islands Security Academy and a practical training module.
The Opposition phase will consist of four tests: the first of them, of knowledge, will consist of completing a questionnaire of 140 questions, of which 120 will be on the syllabus, published by Order of November 28, and 20 questions on a text in English that ensure its understanding. On a voluntary basis, a questionnaire will also be carried out on a text in French or German, depending on the language requested by the applicant.
The second part of the Opposition phase will consist of a physical aptitude test, in which the opponents must perform the Cooper aerobic resistance test, horizontal jump and arm flexions and a test of adaptation to the aquatic environment.
Finally, the applicants will have to take a psychotechnical test appropriate to the profile required for the exercise of police functions, and a medical examination aimed at verifying that none of the causes of exclusion occur in the opponent, according to the note from the Ministry.
Those who pass this opposition phase will take a basic training course, which is compulsory and eliminatory, organized and taught by the Canary Islands Security Academy with a duration of 1,500 hours.
The trainee police officers who have passed the course will be assigned to a job to ensure their comprehensive training and particular knowledge of the structure and operation of the police services, carrying out a period of practical training, which will last 900 hours. Applicants who do not pass the basic training course or the practical period will lose the right to their appointment as career civil servants.
