The Governing Council of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has approved this Monday in an ordinary session the territorial classification for the approval of the project for the legalization and execution of the works of the dressing rooms and the elevator of the Jameos del Agua and the "restitution of altered physical reality."
This approval opens the way for, "with the due inter-administrative collaboration between the Cabildo and the Haría City Council, the civil works of the elevator and the restitution of the altered physical reality in Jameos del Agua can be completed", according to Consistory sources.
The elevator work was stopped in 2010 by Heritage, which described the hole that the company had made in a Site of Cultural Interest as an "attack". Along with that controversial project, the Cabildo recalls that "works have been carried out in the Auditorium to ensure the structural solidity of the natural vault of volcanic rock; as well as on the roof, to channel drainage, and light and sound installations have been undertaken so that this space is suitable for obtaining the opening license."
The file to legalize the works of the dressing rooms and the elevator was approved in October 2013 by the Board of Trustees of Protected Natural Spaces of Lanzarote, and last March it was put out for public display before its final approval.
