The president of the Cabildo, Inés Rojas, had the firm intention of meeting with the airport director, Dionisio Canomanuel, and the representatives of Iberia this Wednesday to mediate in the aerodrome conflict, however, she decided to wait for the events of this week because she was informed of the decision of the General Directorate of Labor of the Government of the Canary Islands to force a meeting between Iberia and the workers to find a solution and put an end to the handling services strike. This editorial team learned that said meeting will take place this Friday and two people with decision-making power from Iberia will come from Madrid and the territorial head of the Labor Inspectorate will also be present.
Rojas said she expected good news before the end of the week. "We are going to wait for the results of these contacts and then we will act accordingly," the president warned. In addition, she maintained that in a conversation held with the airport director, he confirmed that he had met with the legal services of Spanish Airports and Air Navigation (AENA) to sanction Iberia. According to the highest official of the Cabildo, the director of Guacimeta told her that he has every interest in exploring solutions to the conflict despite the fact that the Strike Committee has pointed him out as responsible for Iberia's "irregularities", for not complying with the resolutions of the Labor Inspectorate. La Voz learned from a source of complete credibility that the Labor Inspectorate will again sanction Iberia for violating the right to strike of the employees.
Cabildo Ultimatum
Inés Rojas was drastic when demanding a definitive solution to the conflict from AENA and trusts that the mediation of the Labor Directorate will yield immediate results. "The Island cannot stand this situation for another day," declared Rojas, who also stressed that it is no longer just a conflict between company and workers, but rather putting at stake the economic interests of an island that feeds almost exclusively on tourism.
"We have told AENA that the airport cannot be a chaos and to find solutions in whatever way." Likewise, Rojas made a call to Iberia and workers so that both parties exercise responsibility because the consequences of the strike have an incalculable economic and image cost. Ultimately, the Corporation has given an ultimatum because the situation is literally unbearable. The president has contacted Iberia executives in Madrid and even the president of the Canary Islands, Adán Martín, so that, if necessary, the General Directorate of Labor of the Executive puts a ruling on the table to resolve the discrepancies.
